About Me

Amy Miller

Speech and Language Therapist, NZSTA Full Member, BSLT (Hons)

I qualified as a speech and language therapist in 2010 from the University of Canterbury.

After working for a couple of years in New Zealand, I spent time travelling overseas and

working in London hospitals and clinics before returning home to Invercargill.

I am married with two beautiful children who I learn so much from every day.

I also keep busy with renovating our family home, travel when we are able to, and photography.

About Me

Speech and Language Therapy Services

Voice Therapy

Following an ENT (Ear Nose Throat) specialist consultation, voice therapy may be recommended to help with croaky, strained or weak voices. Voice therapy usually includes discussion on looking after and using the voice, as well as a vocal exercise programme to be completed both in clinic and at home.

Neurological Rehabilitation

This can include both communication and swallowing difficulties following any neurological changes such as stroke, traumatic brain injury and Parkinsons disease. This may include but is not limited to, difficulty with speech clarity (dysarthria), finding words or forming sentences (aphasia) and conversational skills.

Dysphagia (Swallowing Difficulty)

This includes assessment, advice and monitoring for adults who have difficulty with their swallowing. Sometimes rehabilitation can be provided following further assessment.

Consultation and Advice

Sometimes therapy is not necessarily needed, and I can provide consultation and advice for swallowing or communication difficulties. I am available to provide tailored education sessions for organisations and businesses.

Anything else?

I aim to provide flexible options for you and your speech and language therapy needs. Please enquire to discuss and to tailor a plan to suit you.

FAQ

What should I expect?

Assessment is required before any speech and language therapy can be recommended. Initial assessment can take place at your home, your workplace, or at my Invercargill clinic, and will include a case history, any relevant observation and assessment and then a discussion regarding next steps.

How do I make an appointment?

Call or email me and we can discuss any enquiries so we can then make an appointment that suits you.

What do I need to do before my appointment?

I will ask you to provide any reports or letters from previous therapy, doctors, etc before your appointment. It can be useful for you to bring an audio recording, or any extra written notes about your concern.

What happens after my assessment?

At the time of your appointment I will provide some advice and an idea of what therapy is recommended. A therapy programme, if suitable, will then be started at your next appointment.

How long does therapy take?

This always depends on your individual circumstances. Sometimes people only need one or two appointments for some advice, and others may need a block of therapy for several weeks or months. We can discuss the best options for you and your situation.

How much does therapy cost?

Please email me for a pricing schedule which details assessment and therapy session costs. There are different costs depending on the type and length of assessment or therapy you will need.
